FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert visited the Port of Freeport on Tuesday, September 29, 2015.  Along with Judge Hebert, were private business owners and land developers from Fort Bend County.  The trip included a full tour of the port and explanation of logistics as well as future plans for expansion.  The Port of Freeport is preparing for the completion of the Panama Canal widening project and updating the seaport to accommodate larger ships as well as more ship traffic.  Current and future expansions promote the potential creation of HWY 36A which would allow for more truck freight to transport cargo to Fort Bend County and throughout the US.  County Judge Bob Hebert said, “The dynamic growth of the Port of Freeport, since my last visit, reinforces the need to expand HWY 36 and to pursue the 36A and Fort Bend-Brazoria Rail option in an effort to handle the ever-increasing truck traffic; and through the construction of a short line railroad, take many of those trucks off the road sometime in the future.”
