FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – On April 26, 2014, County Officials, along with the Fort Bend Historical Commission gathered to dedicate the Mirabeau B Lamar Homestead Park as a county park and celebrate the history of the land and its namesake.
The 7.3 acre park, located at 1717 Eugene Heimann Circle in Richmond, is dedicated to the memory of Mirabeau B. Lamar, one of the earliest citizens in Fort Bend County. Lamar served as the second President of the Republic of Texas and is known as the ‘Father of Texas Education’ for his contribution to the public school system. The park land is known to be the location of Lamar’s homestead in the final years of his life and is designated by the State of Texas as an archeological reserve.
Fort Bend County families are encouraged to visit the park to walk the trail, learn the history of the property noting the educational graphics and enjoy outdoor family recreation at one of Fort Bend County’s outstanding county parks.
