County Recovery Continues through the Weekend

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX –

Power Outages

At approximately noon today there are still 33,240 CenterPoint customers without power or 19.8% of the county.

POD Sites

Stafford will remain in operation from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. through Monday, September 22nd.  Southern Ice Cream Corp., 13755 Greenland Dr., Stafford, and distributing ice, water and food.

Debris Management

The work today began with 12 Road & Bridge crews and 67 contractor crews and by noon the number of contractors increased to 102.  Things are moving in the county to pick up the debris caused by the storm.  Over the next 90 days, it is estimated that almost one-million cubic yards of debris will be collected; that equates to 67,000 filled dump-trucks.

New Info for Fort Bend ISD

The majority of the school district is to report for regular classes on Monday, September 22nd with the exception of the following schools that remain without power: Arizona Fleming, Briargate, Dulles, E.A. Jones, Lantern Lane, Lexington Creek, Ridgegate; also Sugar Land Middle, Quail Valley Middle, Missouri City Middle, Christa McAuliffe Middle, First Colony Middle, and Dulles Middle; also Dulles High, Hightower High, Progressive High, and Willowridge High.

Stay tuned to the district website (www.fortbendisd.com) for the most current updates.  The district will provide periodic updates through the website, telephone call outs, media alerts and campus marquees.  Please share this information with friends and neighbors who do not have power.

YMCA of Greater Houston

YMCA facilities that have power are opening their doors to the community for showers and battery charging.  This does not require a YMCA membership.  You may go any open YMCA and charge your cell phone and laptops.  Hot showers are also available.  The public needs to bring their towels, toiletries and shower shoes.   Please log onto www.ymcahouston.org for more information.

Lone Star Legal Aid

Lone Star Legal Aid in collaboration with State Representative Dora Olivo, is holding a free presentation about FEMA deadlines, disaster related unemployment, home repair scams resulting from the hurricane and other legal issues for local residents affected by Hurricane Ike. Our organization provides free legal assistance to low-income families and individuals.  The free community meeting takes place:
