Early Voting to Begin Monday
Early voting begins across Texas on Monday, October 20, including 20 locations within Fort Bend County. Several sites are being used for the first time including Houston Community College at Sienna, the Sugar Land Branch Library, and Greatwood Golf Club. Early Voting sites are scattered throughout the county and are near to the major commuter routes used by Fort bend County Residents.
Eligible voters of Fort Bend County may vote at any of the twenty early voting sites, and, unlike absentee voting by mail, no reason need be given for voting early. In fact, Fort Bend County Elections Administrator, John Oldham emphasizes the advantages of casting an early ballot. “By voting early, voters can avoid the long lines often associated with Election Day balloting. They can also vote at a location and time most convenient to them, including Saturday and Sunday.”
In the March Primary Election, 52,886, or almost half, of all ballots were cast by absentee and early voters. In all, 105,870 voters cast ballots in that election.
Identification is required in order to vote early or on Election Day. Voters should be prepared to show their voter registration certificate or Texas Driver’s license, or other form of ID before voting.
A complete list of the county’s Early Voting sites may be found at the County’s election website, www.fortbendvotes.org. Other important election information, including Election Day polling places and sample ballots is also available on line by clicking the Fort Bend Home tab on this website.
