For Immediate Release Fort Bend County Judge 9:30 a.m. Press Conference Highlights |
||
Following is a recap of the Press Conference televised this morning. Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert urges residents to make preparations to protect their families and property as the county prepares for Hurricane Ike landfall on Saturday morning. Those who depend on county’s public transportation are reminded that the public transportation will be suspended on Friday, Sept. 12 to use the buses for any emergency evacuations. Fort Bend County offices will be closed for general business on Friday, September 12, 2008. The County Libraries will also be closed over the weekend. Essential personnel are on duty to continue to provide for the safety of our residents. Judge Hebert also urges residents to stay tuned to AM 1670 Emergency Management Radio for latest weather updates. Residents should also monitor local television and radio stations for Hurricane Ike updates. Judge Hebert would like to remind residents that Fort Bend is only a pass-through county and not an evacuation county. Therefore, there are no shelters set up in Fort Bend. Currently, Fort Bend is also in the process of evacuating more than 500 clients of the Richmond State School due to anticipated power outage in the area. The residents are being evacuated to Brenham State School. For more information, call Fort Bend County Emergency Operations Center at 281-238-3430.
