![]() Houston Wilderness honored Fort Bend County Judge Bob Hebert, Brazoria County Judge Joe King, the George Foundation, and Dow Chemical Company with the TRAIL BLAZER Award for their commitment to conservation and historic preservation in our region. The awards were presented at the “Unveil The Trail” Luncheon where hundreds attended to celebrate the Brazos River – its heritage, its nature and its people. The Sam Houston Trail and Wilderness Preserve, which will be 600+ miles of multi-use trails and greenspace, will connect some of the most extraordinary natural areas in Texas. The Brazos River segment will traverse some 120 river miles within Fort Bend and Brazoria counties, along which scenic vistas, fascinating wildlife, and the river’s rich history can be experienced and enjoyed. The natural riches are today being preserved through a network of parks, beaches and waterways where visitors are encouraged to explore and discover. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, boat launches and paddling trails will soon abound. Some are already established including Brazos Bend State Park. Houston Wilderness facilitates the work of local communities in protecting, acquiring, and developing the Sam Houston Trail and Wilderness Preserve. They are a broad based alliance of business, environmental, and government interests that act in concert to protect, preserve and promote the unique biodiversity of the region’s precious ecological capital. ###
