FORT BEND COUNTY, TEXAS –Fort Bend County leaders are inviting residents to the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the new Senior Community Center, at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, located at 5525 Hobby Road, Houston, TX.
This facility, which will be the County’s first LEED certified building, is a joint project between the City of Houston and Fort Bend County. The site is located in the portion of the county that is within the Houston city limits. This facility is a symbol of progress, growth and concern among city and county leadership for the areas aging population.
The City of Houston Health and Human Services Department will provide Public Health Nursing, Wellness, and Dental Services. The Center will include: an auditorium, a fitness center, an Internet Wi-Fi Café and mini-library. The Center is scheduled to open its doors in the summer of 2013, and will be operated by the Fort Bend County Health And Human Services Department.
“We are delighted about the construction of this long awaited facility where we can provide a place that area seniors will be proud to visit”, said County Commissioner Grady Prestage. “This facility along with the available programs and services will assist our seniors in maintaining their independence, health and quality of life. I am particularly pleased with the partnership with the City of Houston and how we are addressing the needs of our shared constituency,” said Commissioner Prestage. “We would like everyone to come out and celebrate this ground breaking with us.”
