Older Americans Month

May 9, 2017

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – During Commissioners Court on May 9, 2017, Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert proclaimed the month of May 2017 as Older Americans Month. Fort Bend County is home to more than 153,000 citizens aged 55 and older who have enriched the community through a lifetime of historical experiences.

Every year thousands of elderly citizens are victims of abuse and neglect. Judge Hebert commended two agencies – Adult Protective Services and Fort Bend Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels and Much, Much More – who recognize that older Americans in Fort Bend County are treasured resources to protect and revere. Their unique wisdom, knowledge and insight is highly regarded; and the contributions they impart on the culture, economy and character of the community are deeply valued.

Citizens are encouraged to help by working to reduce abuse of people who are elderly and disabled, safeguard their rights, and improve their quality of life by increasing their opportunities to remain active and engaged in community life.
