FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – Fort Bend County Public Transportation held their 10 Year Anniversary Celebration at the Historic Courthouse at 9 AM on July 14, 2015. Tennille Jones, Deputy Director of the Public Transportation Department welcomed everyone to the event. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Honor Guard presented the posting of the colors while Tennille Jones led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. The invocation followed, given by Commissioner Morrison, Precinct 1. Guest speaker Commissioner Patterson, Precinct 4, spoke on how the Public Transportation Department began and recognized the individuals that helped create the Department, most of whom were in attendance. County Judge Bob Hebert, second guest speaker, spoke on the future of Fort Bend County Public Transportation. Judge Hebert commented on the Department’s growth from 2 buses to 37 buses over the last 10 years. Hebert informed guests of the upcoming Westpark Park and Ride lot, the Public Transportation’s Admin/Ops and Maintenance Facility as well as the continuing funding efforts to provide these facilities. The County Judge also recognized the Department’s financial partners along the way which include the cities of Sugar Land, Richmond and Rosenberg, The George Foundation, The ARC, Fort Bend Seniors, Catholic Charities, The Workforce, The Texas Medical Center, Central Houston, HGAC, TXDOT, FTA, TREK, Chevron, U of H Sugar Land, The Center For Independent Living, Texana, Wharton County Junior College and AMC Theatres. County Judge Bob Hebert stated, “We wouldn’t be here without these partnerships. The collaborative efforts of these organizations have brought us the success we’ve had so far and their continued support will ensure our future success.” Tennille Jones concluded the celebration by thanking those in attendance and inviting everyone to take advantage of the parked bus outside the historic courthouse for a preview of Public Transportation’s latest technology for a more efficient bus service. There were two Transportation employees on board explaining the ITS (Intellectual Transit System) components that were implemented over a year ago and the upcoming SmartCard fare media technology. A photo exhibit was displayed at the Courthouse for the remainder of the week for all guests to see.
