VOLUNTEER FORT BEND ANNOUNCES COUNTYS TOP VOLUNTEERS

November 14, 2017

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX- The winners of a county-wide search for the top volunteers in Fort Bend County have been selected by a panel of judges from numerous nominations received from throughout the county. These five individuals – Euleta “Bill” Bell, Dr. Jim Cox, Elise Deitrick, Nancy Kircher, and Mary Watson — have exhibited exemplary service to the organizations for which they volunteer, and have made a significant impact in the lives they touch.

The panel of judges included Stafford pharmacist, Gene Woo; community volunteer, Shirley Clark; Mabel Menefee, Community Relations Manager with Halliburton; Suzanne Hinds with United Way of Greater Houston; and Fred Arnold with Minute Maid. Upon learning about the phenomenal accomplishments of the volunteers who were nominated for this award, Minute Maid generously requested the honor of being the presenting sponsor of the awards ceremony in April.

The five honorees will be recognized for their accomplishments by Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert at a celebratory breakfast on Thursday, April 23, beginning at 7:30 am, at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land.  Two of the winners, Euleta “Bill” Bell and Nancy Kircher, were nominated by Robin Eversole, Volunteer Coordinator at the Richmond State School, for their unwavering commitment to the residents of the school. Dr. Jim Cox, a veterinarian at the Sugar Creek Animal Clinic in Sugar Land, was nominated by Carol Rone for his service with the Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc., an organization devoted to creating and nurturing relationships between visually-impaired individuals and their guide dogs. Fifteen nominations were submitted by Fort Bend ISD teachers and staff for Mary Watson, a mother who shares her extraordinary talent for organization and maternal nurturing with the children and staff of Oyster Creek Elementary School, Macario Garcia Middle School, and Austin High School. At 17, Elise Deitrick is the youngest volunteer to be honored. She was nominated by Joyce Berger, a librarian at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Sugar Land Branch Library, for her role in helping to establish and maintain a very successful Teen Program at the library.

Individual tickets and corporate sponsorships for the County Judge’s Volunteer Fort Bend Awards are available; call Kathy Renfrow, Director of Volunteer Fort Bend, at 281-499-9102, or email her at kathyr@VolunteerHouston.org for more information.
